Kineton Green Primary School

British Values

As a school, pupils are not specifically taught British Values; the aspects of democracy, the rule of law; individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs are fundamental aspects of the school’s ethos – ‘The 5 Bees’. They are reinforced regularly and some examples of this are given below:

Pupils have the opportunity to have their voice heard through Class Council and School Council (each class elects two pupils to each council). All pupils are given the opportunity annually to elect two pupils to be House Captain and Vice-Captain after candidates have delivered a speech to the pupils in their house. These positions of responsibility are based purely on pupil votes.

Each class produces class rules and all pupils have the opportunity to contribute to these.

The Rule of Law

The importance of laws, whether they govern the class, the school or the country, is consistently reinforced at Kineton Green. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind rules and laws; that they protect us and give structure to our lives and he responsibilities we all have to follow them. They are also taught that breaking rules will result in a consequence. Visits from authorities such as Police and the Fire Service help to reinforce this message.

Individual Liberty

Pupils are actively encouraged to make decisions within a safe and supportive environment. They complete their own risk assessments for outdoor learning activities; as a result of the guidance we provide so that they can make informed choices. They are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised on how to do so safely. We aim to provide an empowering education for all pupils through the wider curriculum, which is enhanced by visits from supporting agencies such as the NSPCC.

Mutual Respect

Be Respectful is one of our 5 Bees. Pupils learn that their behaviours have an effect on others and that they are responsible for ensuring all members of the school community are treated appropriately. They understand how we show respect through our actions.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

Kineton Green is a diverse school, where we actively share our pupils’ diversity through celebratory events. Religious Education and Personal, Social, Health and Emotional (PSHE) lessons reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others. Members of different faiths and religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within the classroom and across the school. Pupil s take part in actual and virtual visits to different places of worship.
